India’s official entry for the Academy Awards, Homebound, has failed to make the final list of nominees in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2026, bringing an end to the country’s campaign in the international race.
The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday in Los Angeles, where Homebound was absent from the final five, despite earlier making it to the Academy’s shortlist. The outcome has prompted reactions across the Indian film industry, with filmmakers and cast members reflecting on the film’s journey and global reception.
Strong Festival Momentum, Tough Final Cut
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound entered the Oscars race with significant momentum following its premiere in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. The film drew attention for its restrained storytelling and emotional depth, earning critical appreciation during its international festival run.

The project was jointly produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, with acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese attached as an executive producer, lending international visibility to the film’s campaign.
