Welcome To The Jungle Box Office Day 22: Akshay Kumar Film Slows as The Odyssey Takes Over Cinemas
Akshay Kumar’s multi-starrer comedy Welcome To The Jungle has entered the final phase of its theatrical run after witnessing another steep decline at the Indian box office. The film’s collections fell dramatically on Day 22, coinciding with the nationwide release of Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey, which has quickly emerged as the preferred choice for moviegoers. With premium screens and multiplex audiences shifting towards the new Hollywood release, Welcome To The Jungle has found it increasingly difficult to maintain its earlier momentum.
Welcome To The Jungle Box Office Day 22 Falls to Rs 20 Lakh
According to early trade estimates, Welcome To The Jungle earned an estimated Rs 20 lakh net in India on its 22nd day in cinemas. The film was reportedly screened in around 738 shows nationwide, but footfalls continued to decline as competition intensified. With this latest addition, the film’s India net collection has reached approximately Rs 132.05 crore, while its India gross collection stands at an estimated Rs 156.89 crore.
The latest figures also represent a sharp 60 per cent drop from Thursday’s estimated earnings of Rs 50 lakh. Such a steep fall reflects the slowing pace of the film’s theatrical run, particularly as newer releases continue to attract audiences across major cinema chains. Although the comedy has enjoyed a respectable overall performance, its daily collections now suggest that its run is gradually winding down.
Strong Opening Week Could Not Be Sustained
When Welcome To The Jungle arrived in cinemas, it enjoyed a solid opening week that generated approximately Rs 93 crore at the domestic box office. The strong start positioned the film as one of the notable Hindi releases of the season and raised expectations that it would continue delivering healthy numbers over the following weeks.
However, sustaining that momentum proved challenging. During its second week, collections dropped considerably to around Rs 31.90 crore. The decline became even more noticeable in the third week, when earnings slipped into single digits, contributing only about Rs 6.80 crore. With the fourth weekend now beginning on a modest note after collecting just Rs 20 lakh on Friday, attention will be on whether weekend audiences can offer the film any temporary boost before its theatrical journey concludes.
Worldwide Collection Moves Closer to Rs 200 Crore
Despite the slowdown in India, Welcome To The Jungle continues to post respectable numbers internationally. Overseas markets have contributed an estimated Rs 33.35 crore gross, pushing the film’s worldwide gross collection to approximately Rs 190.24 crore.
That places the film within touching distance of the Rs 200 crore milestone globally. Whether it can cross that landmark before concluding its theatrical run remains uncertain, but the target is still within reach if the film manages to maintain steady collections over the coming days ahead of its expected OTT release.
The Odyssey Changes the Box Office Landscape
One of the biggest reasons behind Welcome To The Jungle’s latest slowdown appears to be the arrival of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Released across India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, the Hollywood epic opened to an impressive response and immediately captured audience attention, particularly in IMAX and other premium cinema formats.
Early estimates indicate that The Odyssey earned around Rs 17.40 crore net on its opening day, while gross collections were reported at approximately Rs 20.76 crore. Its powerful debut has not only dominated multiplexes but has also exceeded the opening-day performance of Welcome To The Jungle, highlighting the growing popularity of large-scale Hollywood spectacles among Indian audiences.
As exhibitors allocated more premium screens and show timings to Nolan’s latest release, older films naturally faced reduced visibility. This shift has had a noticeable impact on Welcome To The Jungle, particularly in urban centres where premium formats account for a significant share of box office revenue.
Further Challenges Lie Ahead
The road ahead is unlikely to become any easier for the Akshay Kumar starrer. Another major Hollywood release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 30, adding further competition during a period when Welcome To The Jungle is already experiencing declining occupancy.
Unless the film stages an unexpected turnaround over the weekend, its collections are expected to continue softening in the days ahead. Even so, the comedy has already secured a respectable domestic total while remaining on course to potentially cross Rs 200 crore worldwide before making the transition to its digital release.
