Salman Khan Maatrubhumi: Release Delay Reports Suggest Film Could Now Arrive in 2027

Fresh reports indicate that Salman Khan’s much-awaited war drama Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace could face yet another delay, with the film now reportedly looking at a 2027 theatrical release instead of arriving later this year. Although the makers have not officially announced a revised release date, industry insiders claim that unresolved issues, combined with an increasingly crowded release calendar, have made another postponement a strong possibility.

The latest development comes after the film’s original Eid 2026 release was shelved. Since then, speculation has repeatedly suggested that Maatrubhumi would return to cinemas later this year, with August and, more recently, the Dussehra period emerging as possible release windows. However, fresh reports now suggest those plans may also be difficult to execute, leaving fans waiting even longer for Salman Khan’s next big-screen appearance.

Salman Khan Maatrubhumi release reportedly pushed further

According to recent industry reports, the film continues to face unresolved hurdles that have prevented the makers from finalising a theatrical release strategy. Sources quoted by entertainment portals claim that even if the outstanding issues are resolved in the coming weeks, finding a suitable release slot may prove challenging because most of the year’s prime holiday windows have already been reserved by other major productions.

The reports further state that Salman Khan has traditionally preferred avoiding unnecessary box office clashes. Unlike many producers who are willing to compete head-to-head with other big-budget films, the actor is said to favour releasing his projects during relatively open windows. That approach, while commercially safer, also limits the number of available dates once the calendar begins filling up, making another delay increasingly likely.

Dussehra window still considered, but competition remains

Despite the uncertainty, the Dussehra festive period has reportedly been discussed as one possible release option. Industry insiders believe the timing could provide the film with an extended holiday weekend, giving it a strong opportunity to attract audiences across multiple days.

However, that period is far from empty. Reports suggest Rajkummar Rao’s Raftaar and Emraan Hashmi and Genelia Deshmukh’s Gunmaster G9 are also expected to target releases around the same timeframe. In addition, several other major Hindi releases have already secured key festival dates later in the year. With limited room left on the release calendar, insiders believe postponing the film to 2027 could ultimately become the more practical decision.

Salman Khan Films recently addressed CBFC speculation

The latest release rumours arrive only days after Salman Khan Films publicly responded to speculation surrounding the project’s certification status. Earlier reports had claimed that the film had encountered difficulties with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), leading to delays in its release schedule.

The production house firmly denied those claims, stating that Maatrubhumi had not yet been submitted to the CBFC for certification. It described reports suggesting certification issues or an official hold-up as completely baseless and urged media organisations as well as social media users to avoid sharing unverified information. The banner also clarified that any official updates regarding the film would be communicated only through Salman Khan Films’ authorised channels.

As a result, while fresh reports now point towards another possible postponement, the filmmakers themselves have not linked the situation to CBFC certification.

Reports point to other unresolved concerns

Separate industry reports have suggested that discussions surrounding certain aspects of the film’s content are continuing, particularly because the story draws inspiration from the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops. Some reports claim these matters remain unresolved and are contributing to the uncertainty surrounding the release schedule.

However, these reports remain unconfirmed by the makers, who have yet to provide any official explanation regarding the latest speculation about the film’s release timeline.

Salman Khan could have two theatrical releases in 2027

If Maatrubhumi is ultimately pushed into next year, Salman Khan may go through 2026 without a theatrical release. While that would disappoint fans hoping to see the superstar back on the big screen this year, it could also create the possibility of an unusually busy 2027.

Industry reports suggest Salman Khan is simultaneously filming director Vamshi Paidipally’s untitled project, which stars Nayanthara opposite him. Should both productions stay on track, audiences may get two Salman Khan releases in the same year, giving the actor a much stronger theatrical presence after an extended gap.

About Maatrubhumi

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace is inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. Salman Khan reportedly portrays Colonel B Santosh Babu, while Chitrangada Singh plays the female lead. The makers have already released an announcement teaser along with several songs, generating considerable interest among fans despite the repeated changes to the film’s release schedule.

The patriotic action drama has remained one of Bollywood’s most closely watched projects, with audiences eagerly awaiting confirmation of when it will finally reach cinemas.

Official confirmation still awaited

For now, reports suggesting that Maatrubhumi has shifted to 2027 remain industry speculation rather than an official announcement. Salman Khan Films has not confirmed a new theatrical release date, nor has it provided any fresh update on the film’s production timeline.

Until the production house issues an official statement, the reported delay should be viewed as unconfirmed. Fans will now be watching closely for clarity on whether Maatrubhumi can still secure a 2026 release or whether Salman Khan’s ambitious war drama will instead headline his return to cinemas in 2027.
