Pooja Meri Jaan OTT Release Confirmed as ZEE5 Revives Delayed Thriller After Nearly Four Years

After remaining stuck in release limbo for nearly four years, Pooja Meri Jaan has finally found its way to audiences. The long-delayed thriller starring Mrunal Thakur and Huma Qureshi is officially set to premiere on ZEE5, bringing an end to years of uncertainty surrounding its release. While the streaming platform has included the film in its upcoming slate of Hindi content, it has not yet announced a premiere date. The confirmation nevertheless marks a major milestone for a project that had become one of the industry’s most talked-about unreleased films.

Pooja Meri Jaan OTT Release Ends Years of Uncertainty

Directed by Navjot Gulati and produced under Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films banner, Pooja Meri Jaan was originally intended for a direct OTT release on JioCinema. However, industry developments changed the film’s trajectory. Following the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, the thriller’s future became uncertain, leaving the completed project without a confirmed release platform despite having wrapped production years earlier.

That uncertainty has finally come to an end. ZEE5 has officially announced that the film will be part of its upcoming content slate, ensuring that audiences will at last be able to watch the thriller. Although viewers are still waiting for an official release date, the platform’s announcement has effectively closed a prolonged chapter of speculation surrounding the film’s fate.

Director Previously Revealed the Emotional Cost of the Delay

The film’s prolonged delay has not only affected its release schedule but has also had a significant emotional impact on those involved in making it. Earlier this year, director Navjot Gulati spoke candidly about the personal and professional challenges he faced while waiting for the project to reach audiences.

Among the most emotional revelations was his account of his late father, who passed away in 2024 after spending the final months of his life repeatedly asking when the film would finally be released. Gulati also claimed that communication with co-producer Amar Kaushik stopped after October 2025, leaving him feeling isolated as the project remained stalled without any clear resolution.

The filmmaker further alleged that disagreements over the film’s valuation became one of the primary reasons for the delay. According to him, the producers were unwilling to proceed unless their expected asking price was met. He also questioned why the makers did not explore a theatrical release, noting that other projects originally commissioned for streaming had eventually secured cinema releases instead.

Gulati said the delay had begun affecting his career, explaining that potential collaborators were reluctant to work with a director whose debut feature had remained unreleased despite being completed years earlier. At one stage, he even expressed his willingness to buy back the film himself if it meant finally bringing it before audiences.

A Thriller Focused on Stalking and Cybercrime

Pooja Meri Jaan explores the disturbing realities of stalking and cybercrime through a psychological thriller narrative. The film stars Mrunal Thakur and Huma Qureshi in the lead roles, with Vikram Singh Chauhan and Vijay Raaz playing important supporting characters.

The screenplay and dialogues were written by Niren Bhatt, while filming and post-production were completed by the end of 2022. Despite being ready for release for several years, the project remained shelved until the latest announcement confirmed its streaming future.

ZEE5 Expands Its Hindi Entertainment Slate

The announcement of Pooja Meri Jaan formed part of ZEE5’s broader showcase of upcoming Hindi originals, reflecting the platform’s continued investment in premium films and series.

Among the newly announced titles are Kambli, inspired by the life of former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, The Scam: Leaked, Coffee King, and Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai 2.0, hosted by R Madhavan. The streaming service also confirmed the return of popular franchises including Rangbaaz, Janaawar and Bakaiti with new seasons.

Its upcoming film line-up is equally extensive, featuring projects such as Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Bandar, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, Sarvgunn Sampann, Ghamasaan, Ikroop and Dalimb. Together, the announcements underline ZEE5’s plans to strengthen its Hindi entertainment catalogue over the coming months.

What the Announcement Means for the Film

For audiences, the biggest takeaway is that the Pooja Meri Jaan OTT Release is no longer uncertain. After years of speculation, production delays and distribution complications, the thriller finally has a confirmed streaming destination.

While fans will still need to wait for ZEE5 to announce an official premiere date, the latest development represents a long-awaited breakthrough for everyone associated with the project. For the cast, the director and the production team, the announcement means a completed film that remained unseen for almost four years will finally get the opportunity to reach viewers, bringing an unusually long release journey to its conclusion.
