Rohit Shetty firing case: Four held as police probe gang link
Mumbai Police have arrested four people in connection with the Rohit Shetty firing case, after shots were fired outside the filmmaker’s residence in the Juhu area during the early hours of February 1. Investigators say the attack appeared targeted, triggering heightened security around the filmmaker and a wider probe into suspected organised crime links.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight when multiple rounds were fired at a multi-storey residential building where Rohit Shetty owns a flat. No injuries were reported, but a bullet shattered the glass of a gym located within the building, prompting an immediate police response.
What happened at Rohit Shetty’s residence
According to officials, at least five rounds were discharged from outside the building at around 12.45 am. Residents reported hearing loud, firecracker-like sounds before police teams cordoned off the area. Forensic and ballistic experts were deployed to examine bullet marks and collect evidence from the scene.
Police confirmed that Shetty was not harmed in the incident. However, the firing led to a temporary security lockdown in the upscale neighbourhood, which is home to several film and television personalities.
Arrests and suspected gang connection
Mumbai Police said four men were arrested after being detained earlier in Pune. They were later produced before a court in Mumbai and remanded to police custody for further questioning. Investigators believe the accused played logistical roles, including arranging transport and surveillance for the shooter.
Officials have indicated a suspected link to a network associated with Bishnoi gang, though they stressed that the investigation is ongoing and all angles are being examined. A threatening social media post surfaced hours after the firing, claiming responsibility for the attack and warning of further escalation. Police are verifying the authenticity of the post and tracing its origin.
Charges and investigation details
A case has been registered under provisions related to attempt to murder and the Arms Act. Senior officers said CCTV footage from the area is being analysed to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify the shooter, who is believed to have fled the scene on a scooter.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch and Anti-Extortion Cell are jointly handling the Rohit Shetty firing case, focusing on the motive behind the attack, funding arrangements, and whether reconnaissance was carried out prior to the incident.
Security tightened in celebrity neighbourhoods
Following the firing, security has been increased outside Shetty’s residence and in nearby celebrity hubs. Police patrols have been stepped up, and building access protocols reviewed as a precautionary measure.
Officials said there is no immediate threat, but the incident has renewed concerns over the safety of high-profile individuals in the city. Authorities are also coordinating with central agencies to assess whether the case has wider implications.
What happens next
Police are expected to seek extended custody of the accused as they continue questioning and follow digital and financial trails. Investigators are also attempting to identify the person who carried out the firing and determine whether additional suspects are involved.
The Rohit Shetty firing case remains under active investigation, with police maintaining that further arrests are possible as more evidence emerges.
