All of Eiichiro Oda’s dream worlds came to life, from the busy streets of Cape Town to the beautiful coastlines of Spain to the mysterious vibes of Mexico.

Monkey D Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy, lives in Oda’s fantasy world. He is affectionately known as just Luffy. The rest of the Straw Hats crew is made up of Usopp (Jacob Romero), a great fighter and pirate hunter, Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), Luffy’s first mate, Nami (Emily Rudd), a thief and the crew’s navigator, and chef Sanji (Taz Skylar).

Luffy wants to find the treasure called One Piece, which will make him “King of the Pirates.” The story is The Straw Hats aren’t the only ones after this treasure; many other pirates are too. This means that he and his crew will face many problems along the way.

Cape Town, South Africa, is where all the pirates live.

The Cape Town Film Studios in South Africa were where most of Season 1 of One Piece was filmed. Some of the most famous ship scenes, like “Going Merry,” were filmed here. In an interview, Iñaki Godoy, who plays Luffy, talked about how the pirate-themed buildings and other things around the island helped make the setting feel real.

Must-see attractions: Castle of Good Hope, The District Six Museum, and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are all must-sees.

Things to do: You can hike up Table Mountain, check out the V&A Waterfront, and unwind at Camps Bay Beach.

The Canary Islands in Spain had a very different feel to them. They had lush forests, volcanic terrain, and beautiful beaches that were used as another great place to film One Piece. These places were used for scenes that didn’t happen on the ships.

Must-see attractions: Teide National Park, Santa Cruz de la Palma, and the works of Cesar Manrique on Lanzarote are all must-sees.

Things to do: Tenerife whale watching, Timanfaya National Park, and Loro Park are all things to do.

Quintana Roo, Mexico is another beautiful place where One Piece was filmed. Screen Rant says that parts of the show were filmed at Xcaret, an eco-archaeological park known for its turquoise waters and old ruins.

Must-see attractions: The Tulum Ruins, the Cancún Underwater Museum, and the Dos Ojos Cenote are all must-sees.

Things to do: You can swim in cenotes, go to Rio Secreto, and check out Zona Arqueológica de Cobá.
