Ranveer Singh Don 3 Controversy Intensifies After FWICE Directive
The Ranveer Singh Don 3 controversy has escalated sharply after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor over his reported exit from Don 3. What initially appeared to be a disagreement between an actor and a production house has now evolved into a larger industry debate about accountability, financial losses, and professional commitments in Bollywood.
The issue gathered further momentum after filmmaker and FWICE Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit publicly addressed the matter in detail, clarifying the federation’s stand and rejecting claims that Ranveer Singh had been formally “banned”. At the same time, actor Manoj Bajpayee reacted cautiously to the controversy, expressing hope that the situation would eventually be resolved through dialogue and understanding.
The timing of the dispute has also drawn additional attention because it unfolded alongside another controversy involving Ranveer Singh’s recent visit to the Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysuru, which followed a Karnataka High Court directive linked to the Kantara mimicry case.
What Sparked the Ranveer Singh Don 3 Controversy?
According to FWICE, the dispute began after Ranveer Singh allegedly withdrew from Don 3 close to the production stage, despite substantial work already being completed on the film. Reports suggest producer and director Farhan Akhtar informed the federation that nearly Rs 45 crore had already been spent during the pre-production phase, including planning, logistics, scheduling, and other preparatory work associated with the project.
The matter intensified after FWICE organised a press conference and announced a non-cooperation directive against the actor. However, Ashoke Pandit strongly objected to widespread descriptions of the move as a “ban”, insisting the federation had never used that term officially. He explained that the directive simply advised members associated with various industry crafts and departments not to work with the actor until the dispute was resolved.
Pandit argued that the issue extends beyond one actor or one film. According to him, the industry could face severe long-term consequences if major actors, directors, or technicians walk away from projects at the final stages after producers have already invested heavily. He stressed that while large production houses may survive such financial shocks, smaller producers could face devastating losses.
He also stated that FWICE’s intention was not to escalate tensions but to encourage accountability and push all parties towards discussion and settlement. The federation believes the industry cannot afford a growing culture of abrupt exits and last-minute disruptions, especially at a time when production costs continue to rise rapidly across the Hindi film sector.
FWICE Claims Multiple Attempts Were Made To Resolve The Matter
During his interaction with the media, Ashoke Pandit revealed that FWICE had attempted several times to bring all sides together before announcing the directive. According to him, the federation sent three invitations to Ranveer Singh requesting his presence for discussions aimed at resolving the issue amicably.
Pandit claimed there was initially no response from the actor’s side. He further stated that Ranveer Singh later communicated through email after learning about the planned press conference, reportedly questioning whether the issue even fell under FWICE’s jurisdiction.
Despite the disagreement, Pandit maintained that the federation remains open to discussion and reconciliation. He suggested that producers, the actor, and industry bodies could still sit together to determine a mutually acceptable resolution regarding the alleged financial losses connected to Don 3.
The filmmaker repeatedly emphasised that the situation should not be viewed as a personal attack on Ranveer Singh. Instead, he described it as an industry-wide concern involving contractual responsibility and professional conduct. He also pointed out that the same principles should apply to producers who abruptly remove actors or technicians from projects at advanced stages of production.
Manoj Bajpayee Calls For Calm And Resolution
Amid the growing noise surrounding the controversy, Manoj Bajpayee became one of the first major actors to publicly react to the situation. Speaking during the trailer launch event for his upcoming film Governor, Bajpayee adopted a measured and diplomatic tone while addressing media questions about the dispute.
The actor said that many people within the film fraternity are learning about the issue primarily through social media reports and news coverage rather than direct involvement in the matter. He admitted that several industry members may not yet know the complete details behind the disagreement.
At the same time, Bajpayee stressed that everyone within the fraternity hopes the matter is resolved soon. Without taking sides, he conveyed that industry colleagues naturally prefer harmony and stability over prolonged public disputes, particularly when they involve high-profile actors and major film franchises.
His comments reflected a broader mood within Bollywood, where many insiders appear cautious about openly supporting either side while still acknowledging the seriousness of the situation.
Chunky Panday Shares His Own Experience With An Industry Ban
Actor Chunky Panday also weighed in on the debate and offered a personal perspective from his early years in the industry. While clarifying that he was not fully aware of the details surrounding the current Don 3 dispute, he recalled facing a temporary ban himself during the late 1980s.
Panday revealed that during the shooting of Aag Hi Aag in 1987, sections of the industry were observing a strike and film shoots had largely been halted. However, filming for the movie reportedly continued in Bengaluru and Ooty, which resulted in disciplinary action against those associated with the project.
According to Panday, senior stars connected to the film were too established to face severe consequences, while he, being a newcomer at the time, became an easier target for punitive action. He recalled that the restriction against him lasted roughly a week before it was lifted following an apology.
By sharing his own experience, Panday appeared to suggest that such measures have existed within the industry for decades, although each situation unfolds under different circumstances.
Ranveer Singh Responds Through Official Statement
As public speculation intensified, Ranveer Singh’s spokesperson eventually released an official statement addressing the situation. The statement said the actor continues to hold “the highest regard” for the film fraternity as well as everyone associated with the Don franchise.
It further stated that Ranveer Singh deliberately chose to maintain silence throughout the controversy because he believes professional disagreements and personal equations should be handled with maturity, dignity, and mutual respect rather than public confrontation.
According to the statement, the actor has avoided contributing to speculation or engaging with circulating narratives despite ongoing media attention. It added that his primary focus remains on his professional commitments and upcoming projects.
The statement also conveyed that Ranveer Singh continues to wish the Don franchise success moving forward and intends to maintain his restrained approach regarding the controversy.
Separate Kantara Controversy Adds To Public Attention
Adding another layer to the week’s headlines, Ranveer Singh also visited the Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysuru following directions issued by the Karnataka High Court in connection with the Kantara mimicry case.
The controversy originated from remarks and mimicry allegedly performed by the actor during an awards event in Goa while discussing the film Kantara. A complaint had accused him of hurting religious sentiments after he allegedly imitated a Daiva character and referred to it as “devil”.
The Karnataka High Court later quashed proceedings against the actor after he submitted an unconditional apology. However, the court also directed him to visit the Chamundi deity as part of corrective measures connected to the case.
Meanwhile, Don 3 remains one of Bollywood’s most anticipated upcoming films. The project was officially announced in 2023 with Ranveer Singh stepping into the iconic lead role previously portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. The ongoing dispute has now placed the future direction of the franchise under intense public and industry scrutiny.
