Battle of Galwan Song Maatrubhumi Released Ahead of Republic Day
The makers of Battle of Galwan have released Maatrubhumi, the first song from the upcoming war drama, offering audiences an emotional and patriotic introduction to the film’s tone and themes ahead of Republic Day.
The track was unveiled on 24 January and features Salman Khan in the role of an Indian Army officer, with visuals that move between moments of family life and the harsh realities of the battlefield. The release marks the first major promotional step for the film, which is inspired by the Galwan Valley clash of 2020.
A Patriotic Tribute Anchored in Emotion

Maatrubhumi positions itself as the emotional backbone of Battle of Galwan. The song highlights the idea of service to the nation while focusing on the personal sacrifices made by soldiers and their families.
The music video shows Salman Khan’s character sharing tender moments at home before transitioning to scenes of duty in extreme terrain, underlining the contrast between domestic warmth and military responsibility. The visuals emphasise resilience, courage, and the emotional cost of service, rather than action-driven spectacle.
Music and Creative Team Behind the Track
The song is composed by Himesh Reshammiya, with lyrics written by Sameer Anjaan. Vocals are rendered by Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, and child singer Master Mani Dharmakot, adding emotional range and depth to the composition.
According to statements shared following the release, the track was conceived as a soulful tribute rather than a conventional patriotic anthem. The restrained orchestration and measured pacing aim to reflect the seriousness of the subject matter.
Salman Khan’s Role and On-Screen Narrative
In Battle of Galwan, Salman Khan plays Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, an Indian Army officer who was among those killed during the Galwan Valley clash. The film seeks to portray bravery and sacrifice while maintaining a respectful approach to real-life events.
Chitrangada Singh appears in a pivotal role and is featured in the song as the officer’s wife, offering a glimpse into the emotional impact of military service on families. The narrative focus, as indicated in the song, leans heavily on honour, duty, and personal loss.
Film Background and Release Context
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Battle of Galwan is produced under the Salman Khan Films banner. The film draws inspiration from the June 2020 confrontation in eastern Ladakh, one of the most serious military standoffs in recent years.
The teaser for the film was previously released on Salman Khan’s 60th birthday in December, signalling a carefully planned promotional rollout. The release of Maatrubhumi ahead of Republic Day further reinforces the film’s national and emotional positioning.
Audience Response and Early Reception
Following its release, Maatrubhumi has generated strong reactions online, with viewers praising its emotional restraint and patriotic tone. Many responses highlight the song’s focus on sacrifice rather than overt nationalism, setting expectations for a grounded war drama.
As anticipation builds, the song serves as a tone-setter for what the makers describe as an unflinching yet respectful portrayal of courage and service.
Battle of Galwan is scheduled for a theatrical release later this year.
