Met Gala 2025 Diljit Dosanjh stuns in royal Punjabi-inspired couture by Prabal Gurung, celebrating identity, culture, and modern dandyism.

Met Gala 2025 Diljit Dosanjh’s big debut on fashion’s biggest night made headlines. He mixed tradition, identity, and style in a way that only he can. The famous Punjabi singer wore an outfit to the Met that celebrated dandyism through an Indian lens. The outfit was full of royal history from Punjab. Diljit’s outfit, which was designed by Prabal Gurung and styled by Abhilasha Devnani, was based on the style of Sir Bhupinder Singh, who was the Maharaja of Patiala in the early 1900s.

The theme of this year’s Met Gala, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” was “Black Dandyism and Global Identity through Sartorial Excellence.” With a dress code called “Tailored for You,” it gave people a way to express themselves and their culture through fashion. This was proudly shown by Diljit’s outfit, which combined his signature pieces—the Sikh turban, the Indian kurta, and the tehmat—with high-end tailoring and embellishments.

The ivory and gold sherwani, custom pants, and dramatic cape made for a stunning look. There were lotus flowers, peacocks, and even a drawing of Punjab and its script, Gurmukhi, on the cape. Because of these small details, his outfit was like a walking history book. Identity-driven fashion was important to Diljit, and he wore his culture like armor—without shame, like a king, and clearly his own.

The jewellery was a big part of finishing off the look. Diljit wanted to wear a necklace that looked like the famous 1,000-carat Cartier piece that the Maharaja had ordered. Even though the original is in a museum, Indian jeweller Golecha’s has made custom pieces based on the prince’s famous collection, such as a beautiful turban brooch.

It wasn’t just a fashion moment; it was a moment of cultural representation on the world’s most important red carpet. Diljit Dosanjh stood out at the Met Gala 2025 as a symbol of royal heritage and cross-cultural pride. He was dressed in a tailored suit and a tuxedo. His style broke traditional rules for men’s clothing, embraced his brown identity, and rethought what it means to be a modern dandy.

Prabal Gurung, the designer, said that Diljit came up with the ideas for the patterns on the cape. Gurung said, “He’s not ashamed of who he is.” “He wanted to bring attention to Punjab, a culture that isn’t often seen in fashion around the world.”

Diljit has always done things that aren’t typical for him, like performing at Coachella, working with Ed Sheeran and Sia, and topping music charts around the world. Going to the Met Gala only proves that he’s more than just an artist—he’s a cultural force. He didn’t just walk the red carpet on this historic first show; he brought Punjab with him.
